Obituary of Edith L. Kessell

Edith “Edie” L. Kessell age 91 of Essex passed away on Saturday morning, March 19th at the Aaron Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chester. Edie was born in the Winthrop section of Deep River on October 29, 1919 the daughter of the late Charles and Lena Lewis. She has been a resident of Essex since 1957 and was the beloved wife of Walter Kessell who predeceased her on July 8, 2001. Edie worked with and taught ceramics for many years bringing this art form to many in the community; she also crocheted and was very well known for her baking skills. Her cheesecakes were renowned and always present at many affairs at the First Baptist Church of Essex where she was a member for many years. Edie is survived by her daughter Bonnie M. Looney and her husband John of Westbrook, her son John Kessell of Peoria, Arizonia, and grandchildren, Dawn Sheridan, Susan Hull, James Mackay, Richard Kessell, and Carrie Bergantino. She also leaves her eight great-grandchildren and her sister Marion Gesick of Winthrop. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Essex on Thursday, March 24th at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Essex, 10 Prospect Street, Essex, CT 06426. Arrangements by the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook.
