Obituary of Helen M Leja

Helen M. Leja of Old Saybrook passed away on Saturday morning, January 22, 2011 at Gladeview Health Care Center where she has resided for the past seven years. She was born in Greenwich on October 8, 1911 the daughter of the late Anthony and Agnes (Matthews) Helen was a longtime resident of Purchase, NY where she and her beloved husband Joseph who predeceased her in1976 loved and maintained their family farm. Helen who was always civic minded served many years as a board member of the Purchase Library. Before becoming a resident of Old Saybrook she had resided in Montauk, NY where she was a member and very active in the Ladies Guild of Saint Theresa Church. Helen is survived by her niece, Priscilla Grzybowski of Chester, nephews, Kenneth Grzybowski of Kingston, RI and Edward Grzybowski of Chester. She also leaves two great-nieces, two great-nephews, four great-great nieces, and two great-great nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her daughter Barbara, brothers, George and John Potts, sister, Katherine Grzybowski, sister in law, Margaret Potts, and her niece and goddaughter Sandra Grzybowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 29th at 12:00PM at Saint John’s Church, 161 Main Street in Old Saybrook. Private interment will be held in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
