Obituary of Betty J. Doyle

Doyle: Betty J. Doyle of Old Saybrook and former longtime resident of Essex passed away on Wednesday evening, January 19, 2011 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. She was the beloved wife of Donald H. Doyle who predeceased her on April 13, 1999. Betty was born and grew up in East Haven the daughter of the late William and Jane (Swanson) Jaspers. A graduate of Arnold College in 1950 she taught Physical Education in the Thomaston school system for two years. In 1951 Betty and Donald were married and they lived in Essex for thirty two years raising their children, Donald H. Doyle, Jr. “Toby” of Essex, and Robin Doyle of Milton, Vermont. They moved to Old Saybrook in 1985. Betty worked as a receptionist at Gladeview Health Care Center in Old Saybrook for nine years. She loved to garden, her craft projects, and her animals. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Essex. When Betty resided in the Essex community she was very active in her Church, Cub Scouting, PTA, and the Riverside Homemakers. Besides her children, she leaves her two grandsons, Christopher and Jack Doyle of Woodbury. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:00PM at the First Congregational Church of Essex, located at 6 Methodist Hill. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Essex.
