Obituary of Robert A Sicuranza

Robert J. (“Red”) Sicuranza, 79, of Westbrook, died peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2011 surrounded by the family he dearly loved. Bob was born in Hartford’s South End, the son of Anthony and Bertha (Balukonis) Sicuranza. The family moved to Newington and Bob graduated from Newington High School (’49). After graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served as a paratrooper in Korean War, was an expert marksman, and earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant at aged 19. After his tenure with the airborne division, he worked toward his recreational pilot’s license. Upon discharge from the Army, Bob joined his father and older brother, Francis, as a partner in the City Glass Company, of Hartford. The brothers then established Twin City Glass, in Newington. Bob continued to work as a glazing contractor and estimator until the time of his death. Bob had a lifelong appreciation and respect for animals. He trained field dogs as a young man, and in his later years, he enjoyed spending time at home in Westbrook where he could bird watch, walk with his dogs, or feed the deer. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared his daughters’ love of horses and was a tireless “horse show” dad throughout the 70s and 80s, and an announcer at competitions statewide for more than a decade. Bob served several terms as treasurer for the Connecticut Hunter/Jumper Association, and was on the board of Tait’s Every Animal Matters, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Westbrook. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marlene C. (Patitucci) Sicuranza; and by daughters Donna J. Sicuranza, of Westbrook, and Dina M. Sicuranza, of Westbrook; granddaughter, Lacey J. Chrystal of Arlington, Texas; and two nieces and two nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 11:00AM at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road in Westbrook.
