Obituary of James Wesley Davis

James, "Jim" Davis, age 89, of Old Saybrook passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 after a lengthy illness at Middlesex Hospital. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years Alice (Godomski) Davis. Jim was born in Waxahachie,Texas on July 26, 1924. He was the second eldest son to the late Allie Lee (Cranford) Davis and Fred Davis. Jim is survived by his only child Belinda Murano, her husband Arthur "Hap" Murano of Old Saybrook and the light of his life, his grandson Erik Christopher Murano of Narragansett, Rhode Island. He is also survived by his brother John Davis and wife Dawn of Waxahachie, Texas, brother-in-law Chester Godomski and wife Elizabeth of Stonington and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by a sister Billie Lee Davis of Dallas, Texas and a nephew Jimmy Lee Davis of Italy, Texas. He served in the US Coast Guard where he received the American Area Medal, Victory Medal, European Middle Eastern Area Medal and a bronze star for his service during WWII in Cherbourg France during the Normandy invasion. After his military service, Jim worked as a police officer, security officer, and many years in property management in Rocky Hill. He spent the last 20 years of his career working as a personal assistant to Harriet K. Maxwell in Carefree, Arizona. Jim and Alice retired in 2000 and left Arizona to settle in Old Lyme to be closer to family. Jim was well known for is many talents such as carpentry, mechanics, electrical work, plumbing and all phases of construction. He was a guy who could fix anything. Jim also was a self taught cook and loved to sew. He was an avid UCONN Women's Basketball fan, Boston Red Sox fan, and a New England Patriots fan. But, above all he loved his family and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Private funeral services will be held in Old Saybrook by his family.
