Obituary of Jean Rose Hallahan

Jean Rose Hallahan, age 76, of Westbrook, passed away at her home on Thursday morning, May 26, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Dennis J. Hallahan. Jean was born in New Haven on August 4, 1934, the daughter of Thomas and Lillian (Leith) Cote. She was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State Teachers College and became a resident of Westbrook in 1961. She had a love of children her entire adult life, establishing Little Learners Nursery School, where she taught for 20 years before retiring in 1990. Jean always enjoyed her grandchildren, the beach, gardening, and was a bird enthusiast. She was a longtime member of the Westbrook Garden Club. She was an avid reader and player of Scrabble, Sudoku, and crossword puzzles. Jean always watched and cheered the UConn Lady Huskies basketball team. She was a communicant at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church in Westbrook. Besides her husband, Dennis, she leaves her children, Michael T. Hallahan of North Haven, Steven D. Hallahan and his wife, Nancy, of Lyme, Kathleen M. Hallahan, and her husband, Jack Lannon, of Trumbull, Christopher J. Hallahan of Westbrook, Patricia J. Cade, and her husband, Del, of Middlefield, and Dennis F. Hallahan and his wife, Sharon, of Old Lyme. In addition to her 15 grandchildren, she also leaves her sister-in-law, Aldona Cote, of North Haven and caregiver Cheryl Hallahan. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Thomas Cote. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook (Essex) on Tuesday, May 31st from 5 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeigh Road, Westbrook, on Wednesday, June 1st at 10:30am.
