Obituary of R. James Gustafson

R. James Gustafson, age 95, of Deep River passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 29th. He was the beloved husband of Isabell (Bobienski) Gustafson. He was born March 19, 1916 in Manchester, CT the son of Robert H. and Sarah (Freburn) Gustafson. Bob had been a resident of Deep River for the past 68 years and was a machinist and toolmaker at Pratt &Whitney Aircraft for over 30 years retiring in 1981. He loved sports and enjoyed playing baseball in his youth. He coached Little League in Deep River and was an avid follower of college football. Bob was a communicant at Saint Joseph’s Church in Chester. Besides his wife he leaves his sons, Wayne R. Gustafson and his companion Gayle Murrell of Deep River, and Brian Gustafson of Old Saybrook, two grandsons, Thomas Gustafson, of Deep River and David Gustafson of Jacksonville, FL, and his great-grandson, Matthew Gustafson. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Thursday, June 2nd from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 3rd at 9:00AM at Saint Joseph’s Church, 48 Middlesex Ave. in Chester. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.
