Obituary of Marjorie J. Corrigan

Marjorie J. Corrigan, PhD, Emeritus Associate Professor passed away on Thursday, afternoon July 24th at Branford Hills Health Care Center in Branford. She was born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Charles F. and Josephine (Switaski) Corrigan. Marjorie attended St. Joseph's School and New Britain High School where she was elected a member of the National Honor Society. She received her Bachelors degree from Catholic University where she was a class officer, member of Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and was co-valedictorian of her nursing class. Her Master's degree, in nursing education was completed at Teacher's College at Columbia University. She was awarded her Doctorate in educational administration by The Catholic University of America. Marjorie began her career as a professor of nursing at Catholic University. During her tenure there, she was loaned to the U.S. State Department, Agency for International Development, for two years to serve as project director/consultant to the five colleges of nursing in Columbia, South America. Marjorie later joined the faculty of the University of Nebraska, College of Nursing where she developed the graduate major in public health. She also served on several professional editorial boards and was designated Teacher of The Year in 1982. Upon retirement she returned to her home in Westbrook and became active in the mental health movement and was a board member of the Shoreline Kitchens and Pantries. She is survived by her beloved sister, Patricia Andriole, and nephew Charles and his wife Lisa, all of Branford; niece Katherine Andriole of Boston; nephew David Andriole of Branford; and the light of her life great-nephews, Charles, Rory, and Brody Andriole. Visitation will be held at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road in Westbrook on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM. Interment in the Resurrection Cemetery, Route 145 in Westbrook will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marjorie's name may be made to Saint Mark the Evangelist Church in Westbrook.
