Obituary of Edwin P. Arthur

Edwin P. Arthur, age 86 of Essex passed away on Sunday afternoon, June 26th in Old Saybrook. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Hill) Arthur. Ed was born in Middletown on September 11, 1924 the son of the late Edwin Irving and Gertrude (Lasher) Arthur. He had been a resident of Essex since 1964. He and Kathleen were married in Ivoryton on September 20, 1968. Ed began his working career in New York City in advertising and than became a banker with the former New Haven Savings Bank in Hamden, he last worked as a freelance writer and manager at the Niantic News in East Lyme retiring in 1978 following 15 years with the newspaper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army proudly serving with General George S. Patton’s Third Army during World War II. He participated in campaigns throughout Central Europe, and Northern France and was especially proud to have been part of the liberation of several German concentration camps. Ed was a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Essex and he enjoyed both college football and basketball. Besides his beloved wife Kathleen he leaves his sister-in law, Elizabeth Lovell and niece, Clare Lovell both of England. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12th at 11:00AM at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Main Street in Essex. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in the Centerbrook Cemetery, Westbrook Road in Centerbrook
