Obituary of Marshall Schofield

Marshall J. Schofield of Ivoryton, passed peacefully in his sleep, on Saturday evening, August 27, 2011. With the support of his family, friends and the helpful staff of Hospice and Gladeview, Marshall at 82, spent his final days surrounded by many who loved him. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret (Marge) Ellis Schofield, son; Stephen Schofield, and daughters Susan Lowry, Lynley Maher and Lisa Robinson. Also son in laws, John Lowry, Keone Maher, John Robinson and 12 grandchildren; Oscar, Max, Owen, Gus, Anaka, Malakai, Aiden, Braedon, Griffin, Tyler, Cody and Margaret. Marshall, born in New London, and a graduate of Bulkeley School was employed by Hartford National Bank. His banking career also included years with New London Federal Savings and Loan and Norwich Savings Bank. He was active in the American Institute of Banking, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement and Rotary Clubs in Essex and Deep River. He was active in the Republican Town Committee. Marshall was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Essex. A great Yankee Baseball fan, Marshall participated in many sports including softball, bowling and was a one time table tennis champion of the Pequot Engine Company in New London where he enjoyed membership for many years. He was a devoted family man, who enjoyed family vacations, coaching sports, and time with his children and grandchildren. He was known for his riddles, sports trivia and jokes. He was a fervent collector of coins, baseball cards and other sports paraphernalia. A service celebrating his life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Main Street, Essex on Saturday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Bulkeley Scholarship Fund, P.O #1, New London, CT 06320
