Obituary of Charles Joseph Pecoraro

Charles J. Pecoraro, 82, of Chester, beloved husband of Vera M.( Jaraulla ) Pecoraro passed away Thursday afternoon September 1st at Chesterfields Health Center in Chester surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 23, 1929 in New Haven the son of the late John and Ellen (Tuscano) Pecoraro. Charlie has been a resident of Chester since 1961. He graduated from the University of New Haven in 1954 and worked as an engineer at Winchester-Olin, and than Coates & Clark, C.J. Bates Company retiring in 1989 after 32 years. He returned to his alma mater to teach evening classes in Trigonometry and Calculus. Always civic minded Charlie was a former Chairman of the Republican Town Committee, Board of Finance member, former President of the PTA at Chester Elementary School and served on several education committees of Regional District #4, and also served his community as a Justice of the Peace. He was a communicant and active member of St. Joseph's Church serving on numerous committees and projects at the church and also served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member and former secretary of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Elks Club in Westbrook, and former President of the Engineering Society. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and cruising with Vera. In addition to his wife of 60 years he is survived by his sons John C. Pecoraro of Smithfield, RI, Joseph C. Pecoraro of Chester, and Raymond C. Pecoraro of Clinton, his daughter Charlene P. Calamaro of Chester, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his sister Noreen Christman of West Haven. He was predeceased by his infant son Charlie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 6th at 11:00AM at Saint Joseph's Church, 48 Middlesex Turnpike in Chester with burial following in Saint Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Avenue in West Haven. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in Charlie's name to Middlesex Hospice and Palliative Care, 28 Crescent St, Middletown, CT 06475.
