I am so sorry I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Martine. She was such a wonderful friend to me, and I so enjoyed all her stories and parties. She was a pleasure to know.

Martine exposed me to the Real Estate world and was a memorable individual who had a legacy in Essex. She loved her children and grandchildren and was a good friend.

Beth and I have spent most of the Summer/early Autumn in New Mexico - and we just today became aware of martine's passing...
Martine and her family were long-time friends of Beth's; Martine was one of the first persons that I met when moving to Connecticut some 20 years ago and became my friend as well.
We both signify our tribute and respects to this wonderfully unique and warm woman. God's blessing upon Martine - and strength to all of her family.

Martine was a wonderful woman! I knew her well as a Real Estate Broker for the past 30+ years. I am also still a friend of Wills and his family for far longer. When Will and I were both about 13 and 15 years old around 1969, Will and I sailed a Blue Jay together in Essex Harbor for the first time. An older friend who was in charge, said that Will would be the skipper and steer the 13 foot sailboat. I was disappointed at his decision, but somewhat releived that I was not in command, when we flipped and swamped the boat in front of Essex Island Marina and some workers at Essex Boat Works came and rescued us. Martine was not surprised!! Will and I still sail together at times now, more than 40 years later. When I changed careers to be in Real Estate full time, Martine was always a fixture on the local scene. She never missed my Thursday Broker Open House in her later years, especially if we were serving good food! Martine always had a sharp and intuitive wit, and would always call it as she saw it. You always knew where you or anyone else stood with her. That kind of honesty is very refreshing and also somewhat lacking in many people and relationships today. We will miss Martine and her sharp wit, and wish the best for her journey onward and wish the best for her family.

Martine had a long and colorful life! As her tenant, paying the rent was always accompanied by a vodka and soda and an hour or two listening to her remarkable stories! When I was about to open my shoe store, she told me that as a little girl living in England, her father paid servants to put on his shoes and stretch them for him - can you imagine? And then, there was the story of Will falling of a cliff (small one I'd imagine) and breaking his arm, somewhere in the Caribbean and the 'Mighty Sparrow' writing a song about the event...and on and on and on....I wish I had written them all down. You, her family were blessed with a remarkable woman, strong and independent before it was in fashion and one who left an indelible impression on this individual! Heaven will never be the same!
Go Martine - rock those angels!
