Just now learned of Mr. Karam's passing. I was a member of the BHS Band under Mr. Karam's leadership. He taught me by his example to be totally sold out to whatever you do and to have passion and belief in your pursuits. The sense of pride he instilled in us as a marching and concert band remains with me 35 years later. BHS Band remains some of the best times of my entire life. Thank you Mr. Karam.

Paul was the first teacher I met when I arrived at Willard School. His warm, friendly, helpful manner made my adjustment joyful. I soon learned he was best friends with Ray Mancinelli, who was the band leader for both of my sons. We shared many wonderful moments together as he taught the fourth and fifth graders in our school. Music was his passion and the student's inner light was ignited and inspired by his teaching. Sincerely, Rindy Hardy

To Mary, Cori, Chris, Heather, Patty & Family,
I can still remember that day in April of 1969 when Paul offered me the position of Band Director at the McGee School. He guided me through my rookie year with his knowledge and experience. Some 42 yrs. have passed and he was the main stay of the Berlin Music Department. His name was synonymous with the Berlin High School Marching Band.
On a more personal note, Paul sang for our wedding, his daughter Cori was the flower girl and we are Patty's proud Godparents. Our son and daughter grew up calling him Uncle Paul. Needless to say we remained dear friends.
His passing leaves us heavy-hearted, but we will remember him fondly through our numerous memories.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Ron & Phyllis Campanario

I was a former student of Mr. Karam in the late 1970s (not a very good one at that). I remember fondly Mr. Karam's love of music and his students. One had the sense that football games were held solely to provide a venue for his wonderful marching band. I am sorry for your loss but hope you find peace in knowing that your beloved had such a positive impact on so many of the youth of Berlin.

My sincere condolences to the Karam family. Mr. Karam had a lot to do with my becoming a music teacher.
After I left Gettysburg College in Dec. 1974 Mr. Karam arranged an audition for me at his alma mater, Boston University during that month's X-mas holiday. I did well and was accepted on the spot. I graduated there in May '77 and have been teaching music ever since. Thanks Mr. Karam- I'll never forget you!

Mary, Heather and family, Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Your Husband/Dad was a wonderful man who obviously loved his family. He always had a story to tell about one of his grandchildren. And without fail he would ask me every time he came in to A Style Above "Vitch Vay Moodus?" He will be missed by all who knew him!! I was lucky enough to be educated under Mr. Karam for a few months in 2006/2007. He went beyond studying the notes on a page and went deeper into cultural and emotional meanings of pieces than any other director I've been under, and always was quick with a joke. He certainly helped me find a greater appreciation for wind music. My condolences to the family and anyone else grieving at this difficult time.

Mr. Karam was my first introduction to the alto saxophone and the wonderful world of music. He was my first music teacher and set me up to love music for all of my life. I distinctly remember the music classes in elementary school and I will always remember Mr. Karam as the band director at Berlin High School, although I only had him for my Freshman year. He was tough, but a great teacher with a great love and passion for music.
I want to send my condolences to his family and friends and all of the lives he has touched through music.
Sincerely,
DESIREE

Fond memories of Mr. Karam leading the BHS band in the 1980s. I played flute and piccolo during the halftime at the football games and in the parades, and in the concert band. I still play, too. He will be missed.

Paul was such a lovely human being. My daughters and I are so grateful to have known him. Upon being told about his passing both of my girls said the same thing, "He was such a nice man." A simple statement but an indication about who he was that his kindness is the first thought that comes to mind. We take comfort in the fact that he touch so many and his song will play because of it.
Our prayers and our love go out to all of you.
