Obituary of Felix Thilo Trommer

Dr. Felix Thilo Trommer, 91, died peacefully on October 11, 2011 after a brief stay at Essex Meadows Health Care Center in Essex, CT. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy, of 57 years in 2008. He is survived by his three children Paul K. Trommer (Barbara Sosman) of Bangor, ME, Felise T. Cressman (Michael Cressman) of Chester, CT, and Eric W. Trommer (Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer) of Telluride, CO. He also is survived by five grandchildren: Karen C. Trommer (Justin Courter), Anderson M. Reggio, Shawnee S. Adelson, Finn T. Trommer, and Vivian R. Trommer and one great grandson Samuel Courter. Dr. Trommer was born in 1920 in Planitz, Germany. He grew up in Lisbon, CT and attended Norwich Free Academy, then the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry. A respected dentist, he practiced in Norwich for 43 years. An active community member, he served on the Cancer Society Board of Directors, the Lyme Library Board, the Dental Staff of United Workers of Norwich, and as a Commodore of the Thames Yacht Club. Additionally he was a member of the Westbrook Club, the Off Soundings Club, the Rotary, and the Mt. Vernon Lodge of Masons. He was part owner and founder of Huntington Institute in Norwich, CT. He was an active and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting everything from deer to woodcock. On the first day of duck season he would be the first in the blind. Angling salmon and trout took him all over the USA and to many countries. After retirement he loved to garden, travel, and carve decoys and shorebirds. He has a fondness for art and was an avid collector of both antique and contemporary pieces. The extended family will miss its colorful patriarch. He lived a very full and passionate life and died peacefully and comfortably. A Memorial Service and reception will be held on Wednesday, October 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 56 Great Hammock Rd., Old Saybrook, CT. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Haitian Health Foundation, 97 Sherman St, Norwich, CT 06360.
