Obituary of Gilbert B. Lane
Gilbert B. Lane Sr. 77, lost his courageous battle with prostate cancer and died peacefully on Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 12:40pm. He was surrounded by his family with love and care. He was a loving, brave, devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed. Gil was born in Old Saybrook, CT. September 26, 1934. After leaving High School he joined the US Navy. He served on the Battleship BB 62 USS New Jersey from 1953-1958 during the Korean War. Upon leaving the Navy he married the love of his life, Hazel (Johnson) Lane. They celebrated 53 years of marriage and made their home in Westbrook. Gil battled Polio in their early marriage and beat the odds to walk for the rest of his life. He saw the birth of their two sons, Gil Jr. and Rich. He coached them through baseball and watched many games as they grew older. Gil spent 35 years at Turbo Products International in Ivoryton, CT as a Tool Maker and Supervisor. An avid Hunter and Fisherman, Gil spent much time in the woods with his kids and father. Later in life he discovered Golf as a passion that he could share with Hazel, and they spent many days on the links. Gil is survived by his wife Hazel of Westbrook, CT, sons Gil Jr. and his wife Priscilla of Danville, NH, Rich and his wife Maryellen of Clinton, CT, grandchildren Ryan and Molly of Danville NH and brother, Martin of Moss Point, MS. Gil's funeral service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church of Westbrook, 1166 Boston Post Road, Westbrook. The rendering of Military Honors will follow on the grounds of the Church.
