Obituary of Alleta W. Murphy

Alleta Murphy,of Essex, devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, died peacefully at the Hospice Unit at Middlesex Memorial Hospital on October 26,2011. Born in Bayshore Long Island in 1934, the daughter of the late George and Alleta Warnken, she was united in marriage to the late Maurice V. Murphy, Jr. on May 17, 1959. She is survived by her children Michelle Baerthlein of Hollis, NH; Maurice V. Murphy, III (Dan) and his wife Pam of Ivoryton; Alleta M. Carey (Lee) and her husband Jayson of Colchester; and George H. Murphy and his wife Tara of Fairfield, VT. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: William and Daniel Baerthlein, Kelsey Murphy, Alleta and Jacqueline Carey, and Eamon, Eadoin, and Eagan Murphy. Alleta was precedeased by her brothers George and Donald, and is survived by her brother Robert Warnken of Bayport, Long Island. Early in her life, Alleta was a Secretary at CBS in New York City and loved the city life. Upon moving to Essex in 1961 she became actively involved in the Essex Women's Club and the Essex Ambulance Association. She was an avid quilter which led her to open the Strawberry Patch Quilting Shop in Chester with her good friend, Ruth Adams. In her later years, she enjoyed her volunteer work with St. John's Episcopal Church. Calling hours are Sunday, October 30 from 4-6 at Robinson, Wright, and Weymer Funeral home located at 34 Main Street, Centerbrook. Funeral Service will be held at 10 am, Monday, October 31, St. John's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Essex. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, CT or St. John's Episcopal Church PO Box 422, Essex CT
