Obituary of Joseph C. Garrity

Joseph Charles Garrity Jr., 95, of Essex died on August 9, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Lillian (Collamore) Garrity. Born in Essex, the son of Joseph and Florence (Hein) Garrity. He was a graduate of Vinal Tech in Middletown, CT., class of 1938. Joseph was a carpenter and worked for many contractors in the area. He spent 52 months in the U.S. Army during WWII and 32 months in the South Pacific zone as a member of the 208th Coast Artillery. He was a member of the V.F.W. Chapter, Shoreline Club 60, and Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Joseph is survived by his son, Dennis J. Garrity of Essex, his daughter, Eileen J. Garrity of East Haddam, his sister, Florence G. Dutka of Essex, his granddaughter, Janet G. Weber of Westford, MA., his grandson, Paul Garrity, of Centerbrook, and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect St., Essex on Friday, August 15, at 11AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 48 Middlesex Avenue, Chester, with Full Military Honors.
