Obituary of John North

John J. "Jack" North Jr., 88, of Old Saybrook, beloved husband of Joann (Abbott) North, passed away Monday November 14th at Middlesex Hospital. He was born March 10, 1923 in Cleveland, OH; the son of the late John and Wilhelmena (Burger) North Sr. Jack received his BA from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and is MA from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He was employed in the State University System of NY and, in retirement to Old Saybrook, was employed as the Old Saybrook Coordinator for Middlesex Community College. Jack was a member of the Cappella Cantorum and the choir at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex. He served in the Army during WWII in the Battle of Layte Gulf and in a MASH unit in the Phillipine Islands. Jack was a member of VFW Post No. 1467 in Old Lyme. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Michael North of Canajoharie, NY, his daughter Patricia Thames and her husband Stephen of Marietta, NY, granddaughters, Kelly Thames of Marietta, NY and Suzanne North of Oakland, CA, his sister Rosemary D'Anniballe of Cleveland, OH, and his sister Mary Ols and her husband Ken of Greenville, SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday November18th at 10 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Prospect St. in Essex. Burial with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Sheffield St. in Old Saybrook
