Obituary of Sam Conforto

Conforto: Samuel J. "Sam" Conforto, age 90 passed away following a brief illness Wednesday, December 14th at Apple Rehabilitation in Old Saybrook, where he had resided for the last four years. He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Kathryn "Mitzi" (Morello) Conforto. He was born in Hartford on October 30, 1921 the son of the late Corrado and Pauline ( Lombardo) Conforto. Sam was a 1940 graduate of Buckley High School and was an outstanding baseball pitcher throughout his high school career. Sam was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II and attended Cornell University for two years as part of a Naval program. Returning to Hartford he became employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. as a staff manager. In 1963 he opened his own agency, General Insurance Associates retiring in 1984. He was a resident of Cromwell for 34 years and had been a summer resident of his beloved Old Saybrook community since 1968. Sam was a communicant at Saint John's Church in Old Saybrook, and was a member of the Estuary Council of Seniors in Old Saybrook where he played cards and billiards. He also enjoyed playing golf and bowling . Sam's last four years at Apple Rehabilitation were very special as he was an active participant in the many programs and events and he enjoyed his many friends there. His family would like to express their gratitude and sincere thanks to all of the staff at Apple Rehabilitation for their loving and compassionate care of Sam. Besides his wife Mitzi, he is survived by his son Kenneth and his wife Ergira Conforto of Essex, and his granddaughter Alison Conforto, and his daughter, Karen Craner and her fiancée, Joe Prince of Wilmington, Delaware. He also leaves his brothers, Paul Conforto and his wife Sarah of Hartford and John Conforto and his wife Marge of Windsor and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre- deceased by his brother Salvatore Conforto of Windsor. Private interment will be held in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Estuary Council of Seniors Inc., 220 Main St., Old Saybrook, CT 06475
