Obituary of Shirley McCall Carter
Shirley (McCall) Carter, 86, of Westbrook, loving wife of the late LeRoy Carter, passed away Friday December 30th at Apple Rehab in Old Saybrook. Shirley was born in Old Saybrook the daughter of the late Royce and Almira (Kramer) McCall and graduated valedictorian of Old Saybrook High School before her 17th birthday. She continued her schooling at the University of Connecticut graduating with a degree in French and Spanish at age 20. Shirley went on to work as a translator at Asgrow Export Co in New Haven, as an Assistant Production Control Manager at Hamilton Furniture Co in Deep River, and as a teacher at Old Saybrook and Westbrook Elementary Schools. Shirley loved the beach, was an avid swimmer and enjoyed Scottish music and festivities. She is survived by her daughter Jean (Carter) Bagley, her son Neil Bradley Carter and his wife Caroline, step daughter Sylvia (Carter) Tiezzi and her husband Joe, her grandchildren Michael, Alexandria, Caylee, Audra, and Darryl, her great grandchildren Brandon and Caleigh, and her brothers Rex and Royce McCall. In addition to her husband of 46 years she is predeceased by her sister Jean Rabenold, her brother Warren Kramer McCall, and her step son Marvin LeRoy Carter. A memorial service will be held Thursday January 5th at 2 pm at Westbrook Congregational Church 1166 Boston Post Rd in Westbrook. Donations in her honor can be made to the Westbrook Congregational Church.
