I learned of John's passing today, via Facebook. Very sad. He was full of passion for the skies, and always made everyone feel welcomed at the Groton airport. I started flying out of Groton in 1986. My thoughts and condolences are not enough to honor this great man who loved aviation. You are in my thoughts. He will be missed by so many people.

To little space to say how much John meant to the aviation world and all of his friends. One thing for sure: John was the best pilot I have ever known. Having flown with thousands, I say that without reservations.

There are not enough words to express the impact that John Rutledge had on my aviation career and life. He started me on my flying career, hiring me at Pilgrim Airlines with barely 200 hours in my log book. Because of the faith he showed in me, I always worked to never let him down. It is because of that belief, I find myself 30,000 hours later stunned and in total shock and sadness at his tragic passing. I will be forever grateful to John for the enormous opportunity he bestowed upon me. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences for my mentor and friend.

I am very sorry that I will not be able to attend John's memorial. John started my airline career at Pilgrim Airlines in 1973. I learned a lot from him then and I will always be very grateful for his help. May he rest in peace.

I had the privilege of working with John to Coordinate getting my employer to and from Fishers Island on several occassions. John was always a pleasure to talk with and he truly had a passion for flying and treated all of his passengers like family. He will be missed.

I met John in 1982 and worked alongside him at NewAir in New Haven, CT. I will always remember how much he taught me. I am forever in his debt for sticking with me despite my many neophyte mistakes. He has always been very gracious in acknowledging my subsequent career successes.
He richly deserved the Wright Bros. Award he received. I am sorry I will not be able to attend the celebration of his life on the 26th.
My sincere condolences to Ginger and his extended family.

I had the pleasure of "working" with John for 8 years at the Groton Airport, I worked at Columbia Air Services. Every time John would walk in, I knew that a laugh and smile would come across my face. He was a fun and funny guy and a pleasure to be around.
After I left Columbia, it seemed that every time I'd visit, John would also be there visiting, which was a nice surprise!
I was fortunate to be there when he received his Wright Brother's Award, what an accomplishment!! I feel fortunate to have been able to call John a friend. Rest in Peace my friend.

My Dear Ginger, I am deeply saddened by the passing of John. As you well know, he was the one who turned me on to flying and eventually getting my pilot's license. Besides that, he also was a great mentor/teacher, as were you teaching me work ethics before they became the norm. He will truly be missed. And yet another piece of my heart has been broken. Please know we are here for you if you need us.
