Obituary of Charles R. Hazuka
Charles R. Hazuka, age 91 a life long resident of Deep River passed away on Saturday afternoon at the home of his beloved sister, Helen Pevelka in Centerbrook. He was born Dec.15, 1920 in Deep River the son of George and Anna (Sojka) Hazuka. Charlie was a proud veteran of United States Navy serving his country from 1941 to 1961. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer, Chief Aviation Machinist Mate. Charlie worked as an inspector for twenty years at the Department of Motor Vehicles, State of Connecticut. He was an avid hiker, walking over 7 to 8 miles a day for many years. He was a communicant at Saint Joseph's Church in Chester and a member of the Deep River Historical Society, the Rotary Club of Deep River, American Legion Post #61 and the Westbrook Elks Lodge. Charlie was a happy-go-lucky guy and everyone who knew him liked him. He was always there to give someone a helping hand. Charlie loved old time country western music, the Boston Red Sox, good food, and was an excellent cook. Besides his sister Helen he leaves his many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his brothers, John, George, Joseph, and Rudolph. All five brothers together served their country during World War II. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester on Wednesday, April 4th at 11:30AM. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Charlie's name may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
