Obituary of Maryann C. Wilson

Maryann Curry Ferrigno Wilson of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, died April12, at age 75, at Yale-New Haven Hospital after an extended illness. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Wilson of Old Saybrook; her son, Kevin Ferrigno of Manchester, Conn. and daughter-in-law, Lynne Murphy Ferrigno; her daughter, Kathleen Ferrigno Stevens of Guilford, Conn. and son-in-law, Philip Stevens; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Bryan and Jillian Ferrigno. Besides having enjoyed a broad and extensive vocation as a teacher, historian and museum archivist, Maryann was an accomplished decorator, antiques collector and painter. She was much beloved by her friends and family, who were the grateful beneficiaries of her many other talents as well, including entertaining, cooking, piano-playing, nurturing, leading by example, and so many more. Born December 13, 1936 in Washington, D.C. to Ann Ophelia Colton Curry and Paul Albert Curry, Maryann graduated from Immaculata College in Washington, D.C., and received an M.A .in Education from Springfield College and an M.S. in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Among the organizations to which she applied her learning and wide-ranging capabilities are George Washington's Estate, Museum and Gardens at Mount Vernon; the National Center for White House History at Decatur House in Washington; the Oliver Ellsworth Homestead in Windsor, Conn.; and the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Conn. Maryann retained her irrepressible joie de vivre throughout her difficult trial of the past several years and has passed it along as a legacy that will endure to all whom she touched. After a private interment service, a celebration of her life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, corner of Main and Cross Streets, Essex, Conn., at 11:00 this Thursday, April 19.
