We Yenowich siblings loved Mary from the first day that Aunt Ida allowed us to join in with her (Mary's) activities... but NOT on Wednesdays, because that was MARY'S LEARN TO COOK DAY. I'm sure Aunt Ida gritted her teeth OFTEN -- BUT allowed Mary to teach us to play croquet, "Follow the Leader": ("The first's the worst; the second's the same: the last's the best in all the game" was how Mary controlled the "me first" Yeno. siblings.) enjoy hearing Mary play the piano, learn new card games (but never on Sunday), etc.: we learned so many interesting things from Mary that we (first gen. Americans) could not have learned from our other Wig Hill playmates. mary also taught us how to weed: she had her flower garden next to the road. RESULT: Sister Matilda went into our garden and "weeded" the strawberry plants --and the potatoes with their MINUTE underground crop!
We loved Mary as a sister -- a big sister who ALWAYS had a smile for us.
Our very,VERY deepest condolences go to Mary's family. AREN'T WE ALL MORE THAN FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD HER IN OUR LIVES!!!
