Obituary of Charles P. Gregory
Charles P. Gregory, age 84 of Masonicare in Wallingford passed away on Sunday, August 12th at the Masonic Health Center where he had been a resident for the past six months. He had previously resided in Cromwell and had been a longtime resident of Old Saybrook. Charles was the beloved husband of Anita E. (Stein) Gregory who passed away January 7, 1997. He was born November 12, 1927 in Maspeth, New York the son of the late Charles Z. and Stella (Xuiereb) Gregory. Prior to his retirement Charles was an Interior Designer for over thirty years at International Business Machines Corporation at various corporate locations in Westchester County, New York. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. While a resident of Bedford Village, New York he founded the Nathan Clark Ancient Fife and Drum Corps and served as the Corps Drum Major. Charles was a communicant at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex and attended the First Congregational Church of Deep River. He was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Council, Knights of Columbus in Essex, a Knight of Malta, member of the Deep River VFW, and had been a former member of the choir of the First Congregational Church of Deep River. Charles had a great love of the water and enjoyed swimming, and boating. He was also an accomplished artist and genealogist. He is survived by his daughters, Alison C. Dougherty and her husband Mark of Portland, Suz C. Soper and her husband Dale of Louisville, CO and his grandchildren, Katie and Jack Dougherty and Drew and Colton Soper. Charles was predeceased by his brothers, Al and Walter Gregory and his longtime companion, Elaine F. Tower who passed away on April 26, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street in Essex on Thursday, August 23rd at 11:00AM. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24th from 11:30AM to 1:30PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Deep River, 1 Church Street at 2:00PM. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in the First Congregational Church of Deep River Cemetery, Essex Street, in Deep River.
