Obituary of Helen M. Simon

Helen Miriam(Berg) Simon,87 of Westbrook and Old Saybrook passed away peacefully on September 13,2012. Born April 10, 1925, she was the daughter of Finnish immigrants, the late Oscar and Alina (Vuotilainen)Berg formerly of the Bronx, NY and Mansfield Center, CT. Helen worked for the Bowery Savings Bank and later for Nassau County Highway Patrol where she was nicknamed "Highway Helen." She was married for 32 years and lived in East Meadow, NY with husband Lou Simon, and retired in Connecticut to be closer to her children. She enjoyed time with the Red Hat Society. She is survived by children Gail Simon and Heidi Hunter of East Haven, Marcia Simon and grandson Erik Simon Vuoritie of Westbrook and David Simon and Louise Ference-Simon of Mansfield Center. She also leaves her special friend Joseph Dell 'Aquila of Garden City Park, NY, siblings Ruth Ventre of Winter Haven, FL and John and Carmen Berg of Mansfield Center. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, September 21 at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook, followed by a gathering of friends and family at Marcia and Erik's home.
