Obituary of Alice Wheaton Lynch

Alice Wheaton Lynch, age 94, beloved wife of the late Walter H. Lynch and long time resident of Westbrook passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 27th at Aaron Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chester. She was born in Medford, MA on November 18, 1917 the daughter of George and Bessie (Ring) Wheaton. Alice and Walter were married in 1944 and resided in Westfield, NJ before making Westbrook their home in 1947. Long active in Connecticut Republican circles, during the late 1950's and early 1960's she was a former Vice-Chairwoman of the Westbrook Republican Town Committee, former Middlesex County Alt. Delegate at Large, to the State, Senatorial, and Congressional Conventions as well as the National Republican Convention in Chicago representing the Second Congressional District. She served as Secretary to the Honorable Raymond E. Baldwin, Chairman of the State Constitutional Convention in 1965 and 1966. From 1968-1972, she was employed in the Office of the Secretary of State as Supervisor of the Publications Division and for twenty years worked for the Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission, several years as it's Chairwoman. In recognition for her years of service former Governor John Rowland proclaimed June 19, 2002 as "Alice W. Lynch Day". Her memberships included, former President of the Westbrook Women's Republican Club, member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Middlesex County Women's Club, former member of the National Republican Women's Club, member of the Board of Directors of the Old Lyme League of Women Voters, served on Legislative Committee of the State of Connecticut League of Women Voters, former President of the Clinton Garden Club, and a member of Bethlehem Chapter, Order of the O.E. S. in Clinton. She is survived by her 2 step-sons, Clayton Lynch, of Florida, and Norman Lynch, of Pennsylvania, 3 step-grandchildren and 9, step-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1st at 9:30AM in the Cypress Cemetery, Route 153 in Westbrook. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions maybe made to the Hole in The Wall Gang Camp, 555 Long Wharf Dr., New Haven, CT 06511.
