Obituary of Bernard J. Negrelli
Bernard J. Negrelli, age 85, of Haddam, passed away on Tuesday morning, Oct. 30th at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. He was the beloved husband of Hazel (Calamari) Negrelli. They were married at Saint Joseph Church in Chester on September 16, 1950 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Bernie was born in Deep River on August 14, 1927 the son of the Angelo and Lillian (Cutone) Negrelli. He graduated from Deep River High in 1945. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bernie had been a resident of Haddam since January of this year having moved from Chester where he had resided since 1950. A master tradesman, he was a skilled carpenter, plumber and electrician who owned and operated an electrical contracting company. He retired in 1985 last working at Monsanto in Deep River. He was a member for over fifty years of the Chester Hose Company and was a former Chief of the Department. He served the community of Chester as Fire Marshall for 16 years, and served on the Elementary School Board of Education and was a member of the Elementary School Building Committee. Bernie was an accomplished musician who loved to play the accordion, banjo, harmonica, and mandolin. As an avid fisherman he enjoyed and spent many weekends on Long Island Sound with Walter, and fishing the waters of Cape Cod with his son-in-law Rich. He was a communicant at Saint Joseph's Church in Chester and was a Fourth Degree Knight and Grand Knight as a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Chester. Besides his wife Hazel he leaves his daughter Beth N. Wood, and her husband Richard of Truro, MA, his sister, Aureli Knox, of Old Saybrook, his brother, Edmund T. Negrelli, of Deep River, his sister-in-law Mary Rayner and her husband Bruce, of Haddam, two special nieces, Toni Myers, and Wendy King and her husband John. Wendy and John, who were the greatest neighbors, always there when needed. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2nd from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov.3rd at 10:00AM at Saint Joseph's Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors in the Resurrection Cemetery, Route 145, in Westbrook.
