Obituary of Daniel J. Bloch

On Thursday, January 10th, Dan passed away in the presence of his wife and oldest son Tony, at Middlesex Hospital. Dan leaves behind his loving wife Scotty, son Tony and granddaughter Anila who live in New York City, and son Andy who lives in Los Angeles, CA with wife Maribeth and son Nathan. Dan was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in the idyllic rural community of Ardentown, outside Wilmington, DE. He served during the Second World War as a gunnery instructor in the Air Force. Dan graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, which he made astute use of in rising quickly through the ranks of the instant coffee business. As the years went by, Dan's expertise led to international assignments, where he took his family to live – first in Mexico, and later on for several years in Switzerland. As the years passed by, back in the U.S., Dan carved a place for himself as an independent consultant in the marketing and manufacture of coffee, eventually specializing in the sales of coffee roasters. He retired in 2008. Dan was loved by many, and will be remembered for his warmth, his great sense of humor, intelligence, and unfailing generosity. He was an avid skier, and Dan and his family enjoyed several vacations on the slopes. Scotty and he welcomed many friends to their home over the years. A service celebrating Dan's life will be held at the Chester Meeting House, on February 9th, at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Save the Children www.savethechildren.org. 1.800.728.3843, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06880.
