Obituary of Helen V. Yatchyshyn
Helen V. (Chicosky) Yatchyshyn, 91, of Huntington, NY died on January 31, 2013 after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Stanley & Sophie (Kovalesky) Chicosky; beloved wife of the late Michael Yatchyshyn; mother to a son, the late Michael E. Young, and a daughter, Valerie J. Meszaros. Helen was born and lived much of her life surrounded by family and friends in Manhasset, NY, later moving to beautiful Essex, Connecticut where she enjoyed life for 26 wonderful years. Helen worked for many years at the beautiful Paley Estate in Manhasset and enthusiastically belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Manhasset Lakeville Fire Dept. #2. She was well known for her gardening skills and talent for flower arranging. She enjoyed all of nature, especially bird watching, and was passionate about the Mets, the "girls" – UCONN basketball team, and football. She enjoyed traveling to new places and visiting casinos from time to time. She spent many hours antiquing, coin & stamp collecting, and was an avid card player.
In her later life, she returned to Long Island to be closer to her daughter. Helen is survived by her daughter and her daughter's husband Lajos of Huntington, NY, her daughter-in-law Meredith Young of Birmingham, AL, her four grandchildren: David Young, Kirsten Holland (and her husband, Gordon Holland), Patrick Young, and Matthew Meszaros, her sister-in-law Irene Chicosky of Tellico Plains, TN as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her siblings; Chester Chicosky, Stella Schulman, Lottie Kushay, Benjamin Chicosky, Irene Chicosky, and Wanda Harton. Visiting hours will be held on Monday at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook, CT from 5-7pm. Helen's Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church, Middlesex Ave. Chester, CT at 10am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook, CT.
