Obituary of Regina Godfrey
Regina Godfrey, 62, of Essex, died on January 25th. She was born on April 4th, 1950, daughter of the late Margaret Linders of Essex and the late Raymond Godfrey of Knoxville, TN. She is survived by relatives in Ireland, Indiana, and CT. A graduate of Trumbull High School, she attended Trinity Washington University in Washington DC for two years followed by The New School University in New York City where she received a BA. She displayed an early interest in literature, theatre, and music, prompting her to study drama and become an actress. She acted in over 40 productions at theatres in Fairfield, New York City, and with the Old Lyme Players and Players II. Regina had served on the boards of the New Canaan and Essex Historical Societies and was a member of AAUW, the League of Women Voters and had been a docent at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. She was a member of Ivoryton Playhouse. During her teens and early 20's, Regina and her mother often visited relatives at ancestral homes in Portrane, County Dublin, Ireland. She treasured her time there and kept in contact with her Irish relatives throughout her life. These travels sparked an interest in modern Irish literature and drama. She also enjoyed an interest in social politics, religious and philosophical debates, and classical music. Funeral services will be held on February 12th. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, North Main Street, Essex, at 10:15 a.m., followed by a memorial service at St. John's Episcopal Church, 3 Cross Street in Essex, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Essex Library Association, 33 West Avenue, Essex, CT 06426, or to Ivoryton Playhouse, 103 North Main Street, PO Box 458, Ivoryton, CT 06442.
