Dear Debbie, Julie and Rie,
We've recently learned of your Dad's passing in February. How sorry we were to hear the news! Although I hadn't seen your Dad for quite some time, I have lovely memories of him -- and of your Mom -- from our days in Essex on Crosstrees Hill Road. What wonderful friends and neighbors! Our condolences to you and your families.
Fondly, Mary Lou Goss Coviello

To Dick's girls,
Your mom and dad were great and loyal friends to my mother, Fran Roberts. I remember ski vacations with all of you growing up, and then when I was older I spent some really nice times with your parents, and then with Dick and Mary, in Palm Desert, where my mom and Betty spent the month of February. I 'd hate to lose the connection to your family. Please contact me if you're ever in Santa Fe. Love, Priscilla

Senator Schneller as I knew him was my introduction in to politics. I ran one of his campaignes in Old Saybrook. I now work at the L.O.B in Hartford and credit him with my love of the political system. Rest in Peace Senator. You were a gentle kind man and Nancy was a beautiful person

Senator Schneller chaired the education committee in 1977 when I, a junior at the University of Connecticut, was assigned to be his full time intern for that session. He was a wonderful man and a great leader. For me, he was an educator. I learned about state government during that year, but Dick taught me more about compassion and an awareness of the human condition. We dealt with Horton v. Meskill, a new government structure and his relatively new position on Program and Review Committee.
I am truly sorry for your loss. Dick Schneller was a remarkable man who was well respected and admired by his colleagues at the capital. He understood how to communicate with his constituents and with heads of state. I was blessed to have been tutored by him and I have used that education in my own career as an attorney.

Uncle Dick's passing does not feel as much sad for me as rather it marks the end of an Era. I think he had a very fulfilling and happy life. He went at things with great intention and was able to always make a difference. The strong memories are Thanksgiving in Essex, the Tennis Club in Miami, the Jazz Festival in Old Saybrook, the Gris and of course our Peach Schnapps indulgences. What I appreciated most about him was ... If you were in the room, he'd make a point to ask about your life- he would show interest and always add his two cents. I think it was the way he cared. It is a way he will always be among us. Debbie, Julie and Marie- I'm holding you in my prayers.

I will always remember Thanksgivings with Uncle Dick. I can easily conger up memories of him looking so dapper in his blazer or sweater, slacks and loafers making sure everyone had libation and was enjoying themselves. One year, when I just out of college, he asked what I was up to. When I told him I was working in a store at the mall, he advised me that I should really tell people that I was in retail! He was a smooth operator! He will be missed.

Saddened to hear of Richard's passing. He and Mary just dined with us on New Year's Eve. He very much enjoyed our Sunday afternoon Jazz Band here at Vicky's of Santa Fe in Indian Wells. We will miss his presence here. Condolences and good thoughts to his family.

There was not a finer man, a better friend or a more trusted mentor to me & so many others attempting to follow in his footsteps. After his retirement Mark Powers & I looked forward for many years to our annual summer reunions, usually at the Gris where we would relax, catch up & receive his guidance. It is only fitting that just this week two prinipal (& principled!) pieces of legislation (education equity funding & financing for less fortunate municipalities)were still at the center of the governmental discussion. He had the courage to be the first to successfully champion both!
May his memory live on as a blessing for your entire family. I feel privileged to have known him and been his friend.

Dear Deborah, Juliet, and Marie, I lived down the street from you, about 4 houses, when your family lived in Centerbrook. And I babysat for you, generally on Friday nights, when I was a teenager at Regional #4. You had TV and I didn't, so that was a treat. You also used to like giving me a new hairdo! Then we'd read a couple of stories and off to bed you'd go. I went on to college, taught elementary school for 27 years, raised two sons, and am now retired. Your parents were two of the nicest people. Both were thoughtful, very giving and genuinely good people. Your Mom came to the funerals of both my mom and dad. I am saddend for you and your families, and will remember you all in my prayers. Very sincerely, Ginny (McCabe) Hoffmann

While a student at Trinity College,I was fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as an intern for senator Schneller when he was Senate Chairman of the Legislature's Appropriations Committee in 1979-1980. He was a terrific Senator and mentor. He was well respected by his colleagues and extremely effective as a legislator. My condolences to to the Schneller family on Dick's passing.

It was my good fortune to cover the State Capitol for WFSB-Channel 3 for most of Dick Schneller's time there. He was one of the very best people there, respected by all. I am sorry to learn of his passing, but celebrate his contributions to the body politic.
