Obituary of John Willard Gould

John Willard Gould, Age 83, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2013.He is survived by his wife Nancy (Betham) Gould of 57 years, his Son, Stephen Gould and daughters, Leslie and Susan Gould; his grand-daughter Claire Gould; his sister Gertrude (Gould) LaCombe, niece Anita, and nephews Marshall Jr. and Keith; his brother-in-law George Lewis and nephew Peter Lewis and niece Amy Lewis. John was born in Hartford, CT in 1929 to Henry A. and Helen (Chute) Gould. He attended school in Plainville, CT and graduated from Wesleyan University in 1953, where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. Following military service he began a long career in real estate banking and moved with Nancy to Essex, CT in 2000. John was a gentleman, well known for his sense of style, his ready wit and his love of storytelling. He enjoyed traveling, bike riding, reading, gardening, going to the Essex Corinthian Yacht Club, and Monday nights at the Griswold Inn. A private funeral service for the family will be held on Saturday April 30, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Essex. Memorial donations may be made to the Essex Library on West Avenue.
