Obituary of Jean R. Hanor
Jean Royal Hanor, 86, of Essex, beloved wife of the late Carlton Z. Hanor passed away Wednesday Oct 1, 2014. She leaves behind her stepson G. Richard Hanor and Kristine Hanor and is pre-deceased by her stepdaughter, Patricia MacDonald. In addition, her grandchildren, Steven and Mary Jo Hanor, Pamela Richards and Mark Pratt, Victoria Hanor and Charles Bumbar, Lora and Brian Zagnoli, Melinda and Ole Johansson and Jennifer and Gordon MacDuff. Also, her good friend Doreen Lammer and many nieces and nephews. Jean's love of travel with husband Carlton led them to many places around the world where they met many people of different cultures. This included assisting the Tibetan's in their relocation to CT. A graduate of Tufts University led to her career in Occupational Therapy and she also volunteered her time working with the blind and disabled. Jean loved the town of Essex. Being an enthusiastic conservationist led to her becoming the Steward of the Turtle Creek Nature Preserve. She was appointed to and served on many town committees. She was a caring supporter of the volunteer firefighters and ambulance crews to name a couple. Also, a Justice of the Peace and very proud that she had recently married her 100th couple. She and Carlton were member of the Essex Corinthian Yacht Club and were avid boaters. They were also members of the Old Lyme
Country Club and loved to golf. A late in life rescue of her cat Maggie Mae gave her wonderful companionship. A graveside service for Jean will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 11am at Riverview Cemetery in Essex.
