Obituary of Lawrence Edward Savoie

Lawrence E. Savoie, 86, of Westbrook, formerly of Windsor Locks, died peacefully on April 16, 2013 at Aaron Manor in Chester. He was the beloved husband of Mary (McKeown) Savoie. Larry was born in Swanton Vermont, son of Edward and Josie (Reynolds) Savoie. He was raised in Hamden, Connecticut , and was a graduate of Hamden High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon completion of his service he attended Syracuse University and later received his Masters in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1959. He was employed by various divisions of United Technologies for over 30 years until his retirement in 1988. He then acted as a consultant on various building projects, including the remodeling of the Daisy Ingraham School and the Theresa A. Mulvey Municipal Center in Westbrook. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Mary. They raised their children in Windsor Locks and Westbrook, where he enjoyed the beach, sailing, fishing and playing tennis. Throughout his life he was very involved in both his church and his community. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council #26, past president of the Windsor Locks Lions Club, and past president of the Island View Beach Association. He was a devout Catholic who served his churches as a CYO teacher, a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Most recently he shared his passion for helping others as a past chairman of the St. Mark's Food Pantry. He was also a member of the Democratic Town Committee in Westbrook. Larry was the beloved father of his son Martin Savoie of Meriden, Carol Seredynski and her husband Tom of Hebron, Cathy Holmes and her husband Mike of Ivoryton, and Laureen Borgatti and her husband John of Agawan, Massachusetts. He was also the proud "Papa" of Peter and Mariesa Negosanti, Jeffrey and Glenn Holmes, and Brian and Amy Seredynski. In addition, he leaves behind three step-grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy and Justin Borgatti, as well as two great-grandchildren, Tyler Borgatti and Melanie Isabella Bogatti. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 20th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church on McVeagh Rd. in Westbrook. Calling hours will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association at P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090, or the St. Mark Food Pantry, c/o St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Rd., Westbrook, CT 06498. A private burial will take place on a later date.
