Dear Jess & your children, Phyllis, Russie & Justin,
I JUST want to tell you how heartbroken I feel for all of you. I had known Ryan from Kindergarten at Lyme School until his graduation from LOLHS. He was a friend & classmate to my son, Matthew. They also rode the school bus that went up Grassy Hill to Lyme School.
Ryan was so mischievous as a young boy but never, ever in a mean way. He was also so funny & loved to be in the spotlight. He was just full of life & I can't believe he's gone. Please accept my sincere condolences & God Bless all of you, Judy Varley,,,,,,,,,,,,,Ryan RIP

As I try to control my tears today I keep in mind of the great laughs you gave me and my family, and the way you clowned around with my boys. Thank you for becoming good friends with husband and for bring him home safe in the winter months, and helping us out when an extra hand was needed with no questions asked. I will never forget the story of you in my woods (one of those Tina moments) had to be there to understand. You will never be forgotten may you rest in peace and you can trust Russ & I when we say we will always be here for your wife and children. I pray for your family and friends to make it through these heartbreaking days, may all the happy memories help ease their sadness. Never good bye, I'll see you again.

The first time we met Ryan was cussing me out and giving me advice simultaneously. I liked him from the start.
I try to be respectful, which can appear quiet or reserved so I don't think he really figured out how much we had in common until Sanborn's party where I beat him in a chugging contest, drank more appleshine and knew more lyrics to old country music than he did. He had some choice words about me after each one of those things, but then we'd do another shot of Jager and everything was cool. And Ryan set off a firework that he was holding on his head. Very impressive.
After that we clicked.
For most of our 8+ years at Millstone we were on opposite teams and only saw each other on overtime, but for a few years he was my supervisor. I helped him reshingle his roof, he introduced me to the wonders of the ice luge. We put a lot of rounds down range and threw back a lot of beers. And jager bombs. He was there when I bought my first rifle. We put together a couple amazing fireworks shows, one in the middle of a hurricane.
The last party at Sanborn's that Ryan attended there was a band. I will never forget Ryan dancing with his daughter Eve at that party. For the most part they were the only two dancing, but Eve was smiling and laughing and having a good time. That was all that mattered to Ryan. He cared for his friends, no doubt, but he loved his family with unsurpassed passion. I respect him for that.
After he transfered off my team I didn't see Ryan as often anymore. That didn't change anything. We'd see each other at work and exchange pleasantries, but once every few months we'd sit down and catch up. The last time was back in October. We were in their kitchen with Jess periodically joining our conversation. We talked about his stroke, I got some relationship advice, we talked politics, family, and played with Johnny and Eve.
The truth about life is that it eventually comes to an end. I would have liked to have had more time with Ryan here on Earth. I look forward to seeing him in eternity.
Ryan Videll was my friend. I will miss him.

From getting kicked out of school to coming home and finding you already sitting on my couch drinking my beers on a regular. Those were the days that will remain with me forever. What I wouldn't give to have one more drink with you, one more phone call from you. You were a true friend who will never be forgotten and will always be greatly missed.
