Obituary of Florine W. Reed

Florine W. Reed, age 93, of Ivoryton, passed away Friday morning May 10th at The Saybrook of Haddam where she has been a resident since August of last year. Florine was born in Essex on March 27, 1920 the daughter of Harry and Katherine (Griener) Walden, Sr. She was raised in Essex and graduated from Pratt High School as a member of the Class of 1938. She moved to Ivoryton that same year. Florine was a member of the Ivoryton Congregational Church for many years and enjoyed her Wednesday's with her church lady friends preparing the Sunday service programs. She was an avid reader; gardener; knitter and truly loved all of her special kitty cats. Florine loved Cape Cod and enjoyed her many vacations spent there. Prior to her retirement Florine was a secretary at UARCO in Deep River. She was predeceased by her two beloved husbands, John C. Brainard who passed away in 1963 and Clyde Reed who passed away in 1991. She leaves her daughter, Susan B. Weeks and her husband Leonard, of Ivoryton, her step-sons, Thomas Reed and his wife Denise, and James Reed and his wife Ann, all of Granby, her grandchildren, Derek L. Hollwedel, of Ivoryton, and Shawn M. Schenk and her husband Todd of Deep River, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Florine also is survived by her brother, Harry Walden Jr., of Old Saybrook. She was also predeceased by her brother, Carleton Walden. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 11:00AM at the Ivoryton Congregational Church, 52 Main Street in Ivoryton. The wearing of rainbow colored attire would be greatly appreciated by the family. A privately held graveside service will be conducted in the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River.
