Bob was such a kind and gentle man with a good sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. He was in our senior club for many years and served as President at one time. He will be missed. Sincerely, Dot Sprague

Mr. Sherman probably had no idea what an influence he had. I met him in the late 60's or early 70's when I worked at Camp Tadma, and Mr. Sherman brought his troop to camp several years in a row. He was a real gentleman who taught his scouts to have fun and behave like real scouts.
Please convey my condolences in particular to Phil, who worked with us during one or two of those summers. I hope your loss is softened by the knowledge that your father set an example that many of us have tried to live up to in the nearly 4 decades since we all met him.

Chris Grotz - Killingworth, CT - Former Boy Scout posted a condolence

Bob Sherman was a mentor par excellence. As a Scoutmaster he quietly required rigorous adherence to the Scouting principles, especially including the Scouting way of life. The first sentence of The Scout Law is, "A Scout is Trustworthy..."
After high school I worked for the Killingworth Town Crew. One day I was sent back it the Town Barn where the Foreman Danny Welch was involved in a discussion with the Town Fathers and the investigating State Police. The only words I heard clearly came when Danny raised he voice and said, "The Grotz boys (my older brother and I) and Larry Albrecht are the only ones I can count on to tell me the truth." What Danny had just done, without knowing it, was named the 1st three Eagle Scouts the town had ever known. "A Scout is Trustworthy..." It was a Bob Sherman requirement.
Thank you, Bob Sherman, He taught us well. We are his legacy.
(Phil joined us as a Eagle in October of that year and he and I were inducted together.)
