Obituary of Cynthia Costigan

Cynthia Costigan, age 62, passed away peacefully on June 29th surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 20, 1951, in New Haven, CT to Leroy and Phyllis DeFrances and was the oldest of 5 children. She met the love of her life, William Costigan, in high school and they were happily married for 40 years. They were best friends, business partners and an amazing team. She taught french and spanish for many years and later ran the family offshore commercial fishing business. She loved gardening, decorating, and most of all, spending time with her family. She leaves behind two daughters who cherished her: Nikola Brown of Greenwich, CT and Paige DeFusco of Manhattan. She is also survived by her two son-in-laws, Derek Brown and Matthew DeFusco, and five beautiful grandchildren, Liam, Jack, Alec, Abigail and Ted. She is also survived by her mother, Phyllis DeFrances, and three siblings Judith Wilson, Beth DeFrances and Paul DeFrances, and her sister-in-law, Jacalyn Costigan, all of whom loved her deeply and treasured the time they had with her. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Leroy DeFrances, and her brother Lee DeFrances, who welcome her now. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from so many over the years. In particular, they wish to extend a special thank you to the amazing team of doctors at St. Raphael's Hospital who never doubted Cindy's strong will and incredible courage. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex, CT at 10:30AM followed by the interment at Centerbrook Cemetery following the service.
