Obituary of Edward F. Unghire

Edward F. Unghire, age 84, of Ivoryton, the beloved husband of the late Rose ( Fazzino) Unghire passed away on Monday, July 1st at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. He was born in New Britain on May 15, 1929 the son of Joseph P. and Margaret (Malangier) Ungiechajier. Ed had been a resident of Ivoryton since 1968 and was formerly of New Britain. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard the USS Adirondack (AGC-15) during the Korean War. Ed worked in manufacturing for thirty years at Tuttle & Bailey in New Britain and retired following ten years of service at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Middletown. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex. Ed was an avid gardener who especially enjoyed tending to his rose bushes. As a lover of aviation, he enjoyed reading about flight and building all types of model aircraft. Ed was fond of travel and enjoyed many special trips to Ogunquit, Maine and several trips to Europe. He is survived by his three sons, Eugene P. Unghire, of Hudson, Florida, Philip A. Unghire and Andrew E. and his wife Kim H. Unghire, all of Ivoryton, his grandchildren, Jeannine Unghire, of Mystic, and Mitchell and Michael Unghire, both of Ivoryton. Ed also leaves his sister, Helen Kahrmann, of Saco, Maine and his brother, William Unghire, of Newington. Predeceased by his beloved Rose on June 3, 2010 they enjoyed fifty three years together. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street in Essex. Interment services will be privately held by the family.
