Obituary of Daria G'Winn Thompson

Daria G'Winn Thompson, 53, passed away peacefully at her home in Haddam on September 25, 2013 with her partner and her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, she moved to Fairfield, Connecticut in 1965. After graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1977, she attended Slippery Rock University in PA. Upon returning to Connecticut, she was employed in banking for many years and in horticultural therapy for disabled adults and teens-at-risk. In 1998, she began working at Open Solutions in Glastonbury as a contract specialist finding great satisfaction in this position. Daria loved photography, kayaking, gardening, bird-watching, and all animals great and small, especially her beloved cats and dog, Blaze. Daria was adamant in her support of all causes dedicated to Conservation and those in need or oppressed. Besides her partner, Sharon Bailey, she is survived by her father, Robert H. Thompson and his partner Jane McGovern of Naples, FL, her mother Frances Thompson of Fairfield, her sister Donna Tierney and her husband Michael of Fairfield, her sister Paula Ramos-Cowling and her husband Gregory Cowling of Evans, GA, her brother Bryan Thompson and his wife Virginia of Fairfield, her sister Pamela Taylor and her husband Robert of Clarksville, VA, her sister-in-law, Lucinda Moses and her husband Joseph Richards of Westminster West, VT, and her sister-in-law, Rebecca Moses of Torrington. She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews, and many special friends. Daria was predeceased by her brother, Robert B. Thompson. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a time of visitation at the Robinson, Wright and Weymer Funeral Home at 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, CT, on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street, Essex, CT.
