Obituary of Gary Reinhardt Baier

Gary Reinhardt Baier, of Ivoryton, CT, died October 17, 2014, at the age of 54. He was the son of Gertrude and Charles V. Baier of Simsbury, CT. Gary was married for 30 years to Jennifer (Krusen) Baier with whom he had three children, Rachel Reinhardt Baier, Wendy Baier Cartier, and Jessica Morton Baier. In addition to his wife, parents, and children, Gary is survived by his siblings, Charles W. Baier and his wife Charlene, Laurie J. Baier, and Chris R. Baier and his wife Mary. He was an uncle to Caitlin, Allison, Eric, Taylor, and Benjamin, father-in-law to Eric, brother-in-law to Cynthia, Bob, Betsey, Dave, and Elliott, and son-in-law to George C Krusen II. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Betsey M. Krusen. Gary graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1982 and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988 with degrees in Mechanical Engineering. He had been the physics teacher at the Morgan School for the past seven years and prior to that had spent 25 years in the aerospace and automotive industry as a mechanical engineer working for both the Lee Co. and Laminova. Gary also owned a mechanical engineering consulting business and holds a U.S. patent. Gary was a competitive shooter and a member of the Niantic Sportsman's club. In addition, he was an avid sailor and loved the beach. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 11:00AM at The Ivoryton Congregational Church, 57 Main Street in Ivoryton. Burial will be privately held by Gary's family in the Riverview Cemetery in Essex. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary's name to the Morgan School Scholarship Fund, 27 Killingworth Turnpike, Clinton, CT, 06413.
