So sad to learn today of the deaths of both Darline and Bob. They were cherished friends during my good times and less good, wonderful hosts in the Bahamas and sailing, down to earth with hearts of gold. Miss you guys.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Bob in the last 7 months at Peregrine's Landing after my mother moved in. Bob and I would visit regularly while I was there visiting my Mom. We had great conversations and lots of laughs. I learned a lot about Bob and his wonderful life during our chats. Peregrines won't be the same without him! We can all take comfort in knowing that he is now resting in peace.

Where do I begin. My first job, a soda jerk at Doane's. I lived just down the road across from the elementary school so I walked to work. Sometimes the donut man from New haven would pick me up and we'd open the store together. Bob taught me about money, how to count it, how to give change, how to be polite, how to make the best ice cream soda ever! And how to finish the cleaning of the soda fountain with seltzer. I went on to become a teacher for just under 30 years. Loving the memories. May God bless Bob and all of his loving family.

Bob Doane was a great friend when I was a kid growing up in Essex Connecticut. I do remember working with him and my dad on his Maple Syrup route when I was younger. He was teaching me how to drive his old pickup truck back in the day up on Bookhill Road.

My deepest condolences to the entire Doane family. Mr Doane was a remarkable man in very many ways, and I have never forgotten his generosity to me. Every time that I board my sailboat here in California I cannot help but think back to the 'Bonnie Lass', where thanks to him I first learned to sail something bigger than a Lightning. Even now when I see a Tartan 27 on the water it brings a smile to my face. I am sure that he touched hundreds of lives as he did mine. Thank you, Mr Doane, for everything: requiescat in pace.
