Obituary of Stever Aubrey

Stever Aubrey, of Lyme, died at the age of 93 on November 3, 2013 surrounded by his wife and five children. Stever was born in LaSalle, Illinois, August 31, 1920 the son of James T. Aubrey and Mildred (Stever) Aubrey. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers James, George and David. He grew up in the Chicago area, attended Lake Forest Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Princeton University in 1943. Stever and his three brothers served in World War II. After the war, Stever followed in the footsteps of his father, a partner in the Chicago firm Aubrey Moore and Wallace, and began his distinguished forty plus year career in the advertising business in New York at J. Walter Thompson and other prominent agencies. He became known as one of the great gentleman of advertising in the golden age. Stever and Sally moved from their family home in New Canaan to Lyme in 1980. In retirement, he pursued his passion for traveling, enjoying the outdoors and sculpting. Stever was very involved at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and the Black Hall Club where he served as president from 1990-1992. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sally Hixon Aubrey, as well as their children and spouses, Lynne Aubrey, Jennifer Aubrey, Catherine Aubrey Lethbridge, Stever H. Aubrey, Michael R. Aubrey, 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00pm at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 2 Ferry Road in Old Lyme.
