Obituary of Carole Connell Lerner

Carole Connell Lerner, 78, of Killingworth and formerly of Deep River, passed away peacefully November 23rd at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born in Washington D.C. on November 15, 1935, she graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington Virginia and went on to attend Florida Southern College where she became a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and acted as the Sororities Secretary. After college she became the Secretary for the U.S Chamber of Commerce President. She became the Secretary to the Chairman of the Board, Jack Straus, of Macy's Corporation for several years in the early 60's. She moved to Deep River in 1965 where she raised a family and resided for 26 years before moving to Killingworth in 1991. She became an employee at Deep River Elementary as well as Mount Saint John School where she also volunteered. In the early 80's she became an employee of Whelen Engineering where she held several positions and did so for 28 years until her retirement in 2010. Friends and family alike remember for her one of kind personality, easygoing nature and her wonderful smile that she possessed even up to her passing. She loved all types of music, a huge sports fan which included her love for her beloved Washington Redskins. A loving mother and grandmother, she leaves her two sons Christopher and wife Krista of New Britain, Nicholas and his wife Mara of White Plains New York and grandson Luke. The family would like express special thanks for all the staff at the Connecticut Hospice during Carole's stay. You are all angels.
