How saddened I was to learn only today of Paul's passing. Paul took a few landscape painting workshops with me, and I greatly enjoyed our conversations, which were resumed at subsequent lunches and in his studio. What a dear man, intelligent, thoughtful and always interested in learning more about art. We planned to paint together this past year, but circumstances didn't allow. I'm left with the most pleasent memories of an exceptional man. Lorre and I send our love and condolences to his family.

Still in shock and so saddened that "Mr. Harper" has left us. I spent so many hours in his company and just thought he would always be there. I am so grateful though that his and Cooie's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always know so much about their family through their thoughtful journals and books. Love and much sympathy from Fran (and John)

My heart goes out to all the Harpers. What an incredible loss. What an incredible man. When I think of all he accomplished in his life- it's just amazing. A uniquely talented man. I know how much his and Cooie's friendship meant to my folks. I feel fortunate to have reconnected with him last year when my father died. As Rachel mentioned, truly The Greatest Generation. We will always cherish the stunning beaver dam drawing that takes up one wall in the living room at the farm. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I am so sad to hear of Mr. Harper's death. He was a dear friend of my dad's (Brad Burnham) for more than 65 years -- and he did a fabulous job as a speaker at our dad's memorial service in June of 2012. Dad had never shared very much at all about his experience in the Marines in WWII -- and Mr. Harper did a wonderful job painting a picture of that era in our father's life ... I will always remember him with great fondness. The Greatest Generation is passing on -- so sad! I will be thinking about your family during this difficult time.
Fondly,
Rachel Burnham Van Voorhis

We had a wonderful visit with Paul & Cooie in Lyme, Ct. on June 7, 2013. Paul had just recovered from a bout with pneumonia and wanted me to help him get his tax papers together because for the first time in over 50 years he wasn't certain he had them all. We worked together in the office of his home gathering all the necessary info that Paul had impeccably gotten together. He was very organized and still capable. He was thrilled to hear that he still could do a fabulous job and hadn't missed a beat. After a delicious luncheon Paul showed us around and took us to the sun drenched Atrium where his favorite painting was hanging. He was so proud. On the ride back to New York City we discussed in detail the ever engaging, dashing, spirited, kind and talented Paul. It didn't seem like we'd be writing a condolence message 6 months later to Cooie and the family. Paul will be missed. May his memory be a blessing and comfort to all.

I met Paul only two or three times, at lunch or at an event at Lyme Academy College, and from the start was profoundly moved by his generosity of spirit, his erudition, wit, business savvy, love of art. In a world of so much self-promotional conversation, Paul listened, cared about people and ideas and, in his soft-spoken manner, enriched the conversation and made you feel that what you had to say was worthwhile. A class-act gentleman.

Dear Cooie, I just learned of Paul's passing and I'm so saddened by the news. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Just this morning, I was meeting with the worldwide creative director of our agency. He said, "I have a present for you." With that he presented me with one of Paul's blue line memos from 1982. He had found it as they were cleaning out an old office. This gave me a chance to tell him about Paul and the influence he had on me and so many others. I learned so much from him about leadership, creativity, the arts, about style and civility. And of course I shall always be indebted to Paul for giving me the opportunity to succeed him at the helm of our agency. As you know, I insisted that he stay around for awhile to continue his coaching of me and even after he retired, i benefitted from his wisdom, dispensed at our occasional lunches when he'd come in from Connecticut. Please extend my sympathies to your children as well. They too are in our thoughts and prayers. With love and gratitude for Paul's life and inspiration, Keith
