Obituary of Lillias M. Paul
Lillias Marshall Paul passed away on December 20, 2013 in Chester, Connecticut. She was born in Manchester, Connecticut on December 28, 1922, the daughter of Alexander Marshall and Martha (Langer) Marshall. She moved to New Hampshire at an early age and lived there through High School attending Pembroke Academy. Lil moved back to Connecticut in 1940 and married Justus Williams Paul, Jr. on September 13, 1947, he passed away in 2008. She has six surviving children, Gregory, Carolyn, Douglas, Kimberly, Geoffrey and Elizabeth, and twelve grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Louise Stokes and Helena Skaggs and was predeceased by a brother who died in infancy. In addition to her very active family life, Lil worked at various banks and in property management and real estate accounting. She and her family moved to Essex, Connecticut in 1958 from Manchester where she continued to be active in various community organizations, including Child and Family Services. Lil was also a Trustee of The First Congregational Church of Essex, a Republican Registrar of Voters for Ivoryton and a Justice of the Peace. She was a member of the Essex Yacht Club and Mile Creek Beach Club. Lil will be remembered for her engaging manner, sharp wit and outgoing personality. She enjoyed bridge, gardening, reading, gourmet cooking and was an accomplished knitter, having made hundreds of original design sweaters for her family and friends. For decades, Lil carried on her Essex morning coffee tradition, making many friends and much laughter along the way. Her sense of humor and willingness to help out with any task will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations in may be made in memory of Lil to the Essex Elementary School Foundation, P.O.
