Obituary of Jonathan Barbi

Jonathan Robert Barbi, age 24, passed away at his residence in Clinton, Connecticut on April 25, 2018. He was born July 4, 1993 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and moved to East Haddam, Connecticut in 2005. “Johnny” graduated from Nathan Hale-Ray High School in 2012. He was an extremely talented musician who played in any setting he could, whether it was his school band, a fundraising concert, or his own basement. Johnny’s best days were spent outdoors, in nature. He loved kayaking, hiking, and fishing. He also loved reading, philosophy, theology, and language. Johnny was kind and thoughtful.  Although he seemed quiet to most people, he enjoyed deep and meaningful conversation, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He was compassionate and wanted to make people happy. Johnny was a great friend and deeply loved his family.

Jonathan is survived by his grieving parents Antonio and April (Hand) of East Haddam, grandmother Jacquelyn Hand of Westbrook, brother Massimiliano, sister-in-law Deborah (Devenney), sisters Emily and Katie, nephew Theodore Barbi,cousins Benjamin and Hayley Sisk of Clinton and dear friend Shawn Batchelder of East Haddam; brothers Vincent and Daniel, sister-in-law Maiwenn, and niece Abby Poppelier, all of The Netherlands. Johnny also left behind Aunt Celeste, Uncle Robert Sisk, Aunt Julie and Uncle Bill Hisle, cousins Autumn, David, and Myra Reavis, Delaney and Nathan Piercy, Kyam and Libby McCormack; Aunt Robin and Uncle Tony Dibiaso; Uncle Gisberto, Aunt Theresa, cousins Berio, Angela, and Andrea Barbi; Uncle Ciro, Aunt Janeth and cousins Laura, Nataly, Melissa, and Megan Rose Barbi.

There will be a wake May 2, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Robinson, Wright, and Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, Connecticut. The funeral service will be held May 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Christ Chapel, 1185 Durham Road, Madison, Connecticut. Interment will follow at First Church Cemetery, East Haddam.
