Obituary of Gerard Emile Bonin

 

Gerard Emile Bonin, age 89, of Essex, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Essex Meadows Healthcare. He was born on August 28, 1928 in Derby Line, Vermont the son of the late Lucian and Rose (Bolanger) Bonin. Gerard was a graduate of Fairfield University earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He owned and operated G.E. Bonin & Associates of Old Saybrook . Gerard designed and developed many applications used in the medical field today as well as new age technology.  He enjoyed playing tennis, the piano, sailing, and square dancing.  He is survived by his children, Steven Bonin of Middletown, Gregory Bonin, and his wife Cathy , and Lawrence Bonin, and his wife Kathy, all of Old Saybrook. He also leaves his grandchildren, Nicole Bonin, Kelly Casey, Kaitlyn Bonin, Annmarie Bonin, Lillian Bonin, Jimmy Bonin, Christian Bonin, Joy Bonin, and Lawrence Bonin, Jr., his great-grandchildren, Felicia and Hunter Frechette,  and his sister, Estelle Bonin Rutkowski, of Jupiter, FL. Gerard was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Bonin Casey, his son, David Bonin, brothers, Joseph and Leo Bonin and sister, Theresa Mozelewski. The family would like to thank the staff of Essex Meadows for their loving and compassionate care. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 9:00AM to 10:30AM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM at Saint John Church, 61 Main Street in Old Saybrook. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Gerard’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
