Obituary of Julie Kreis Cunningham
Julie Kreis Cunningham, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 20, in Essex, CT. She was born on May 13, 1929, in Krefeld, Germany, and spent her childhood years in Essex. Julie worked at LIFE magazine in New York after receiving a BA in English from the University of Connecticut. A resident of Fairfield since 1953, she was a founding member of the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport; served as a Trustee, Dogwood Festival Co-Chairman; and is a past president of the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, and PAL instructor. She belonged to the Fairfield Historical Society and the House and Garden Club. Julie worked as a realtor in Fairfield for many years, most recently with Nicholas H. Fingelly of Southport, CT. A member of the Fairfield Beach Club, she spent many happy summers on the beach doing the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle with her friends. She loved antiques, art, history and music. Julie enjoyed traveling with her family and her husband, Dave. Together they had two sons and a daughter. Julie is survived by her daughter, Clare Cunningham, of Essex, CT, and her granddaughter, Dana Bechert, of Nottingham, PA. A memorial service will be held on June 6, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, Fairfield, CT.
